Ask The ExpertJaw faces maintenance what do you reccomend and do the jaw faces effect reults
Answer
Using worn or damaged rubber faced jaws can have adverse effect on your results when testing fabrics, from experience for grab tensile and fabric slippage it could lower your results by 2-3kgf when your expected breaking force is only 20 kgf that\'s a high %. Get into good habits, check the jaw faces before you insert them into your grips, then check the grips are opening and closing fully. Fabric testing can generate a lot of loose fibre, this can sometimes clogg up the grips, so clean down the grips and machine after use. Lastly bleed the relief valve in your air supply at least weekly. Any problems contact your local SDL Atlas Agent for advise. They can re-face jaws for you or advise the correct process to perform this in your laboratory.
