Ask The Experthi sylvia, sylvia is it necessary to apply glue on the edges of knitted fabric when we perform Pilling Resistance ASTM D 3512 ???
Answer
In my opinion it is necessary to glue the edges as per the standard requirements (see clause 9.5 + note 3). It preforms several functions prevents fraying of the specimens (the loose threads then add to the debris that forms the pills)rather than the added lint, holds the specimens outduring the test, minimising the curling of knitted fabrics and, it and the cork liner actually create the standard rubbing surface.
