Question:Hi, Based on your experience, testing of Kevlar yarn, what is the most relevant; stress-strain of load-displacement?. If stress-strain, how we can get the cross section area of kevlar yarn? Ridwan Yahaya adr266@gmail.com

Answer: The most relevent for yarn testing would be load-displacement. When it comes to testing yarns we would normally use tenacity (cN/tex) = maximum force (cN) divided by tex value of the yarn. I would refer you to ASTM D7269-07 Standard Test Methods for Tensile testing of Aramid Yarns, Du Pont de Nemours as the fibre producer who may have their own In House Test Method for this area or BISFA  who publish standards for this area of tesing.  If you need help with sourcing specialist test equipment for this type of yarn testing we can supply it to you through SDL-ATLAS.
