Sylvia answers your questions

Sylvia’s extensive knowledge of textile testing came from her 10 years’ experience with Du Pont UK in their Sales Research laboratory whom she joined after graduating from, what is now known as, De Montfort University.

Sylvia later worked for 15 years at Intertek Testing Services in the textile testing laboratory at their Commercial Test House, not only doing hands on testing herself, but also training other textile technicians in the full scope of textile testing.  Sylvia has also accredited other textile laboratories on behalf of several of the European Retailers and has covered testing of textiles from fibers through to the final product.

Her active involvement with the British Standards Institute and now as a member of ASTM D13 Textile Committee allows her to keep current with what is happening in the world of Textile Testing. Sylvia currently serves on the following committees:

Committee member:  BSI - TCI 24 Physical Properties of Textiles

Convenor: ISO/TC38/SC24/WG3 Tensile Properties (tensile, tear, seam)

Committee member: WG for BS 7907 Children’s Code of Practice for Mechanical Safety

UK Expert: CEN TC248 WG22 Elasticity of Fabrics

UK Representative: ISO/TC38/-/WG9 Test Methods for Non-woven Fabric
